Also, Zeus is off to Amsterdam next weekend to The Winners Show, a nice trip for Paul who is going with Nigel from the Lionslord Kennel, I'm sure they will have a good time!!
November 2008 - HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY TO ZEUS AND ALL HIS LITTER BROTHERS AND SISTERS
Today Nanook has come into season, she has just had her eye test and all is clear, so watch the space for a hopeful mating!!!
A very Happy Birthday to Zeus's grandad Peetu - Kingslord Mr De-Sevres, who is 10 years old and looking fantastic, as you will see in the picture he is having his favourite snack banana cheescake! Thank you Marita and Seppo for sending us this lovely picture!
October 2008 LCGB
Well I must apologise for very few updates over the last month, it's been a bit hectic at home as Callum has moved to Harrogate to the Army Foundation College to embark on his career in the REME. We have also had a well deserved holiday for 2 weeks in Egypt, I must thank Penny Dabell from Vectiseleon Leonbergers for looking after 3 of our dogs and Anita and Nigel at Lionslord for having Zeus as a guest, you did a great job guys!
So the show scene is now quietening down, its been a bit of a mad summer and Paul and I feel like we have been living in the car LOL.
LCGB Championship show is always a highlight a good chance to see a lot of Leo's.
I started bathing Kykko and Zeus around 4pm, Paul rang to say he was on his way home from work, so I thought great another pair of hands! Paul returned home at 8pm!!! His car had broken down and he had to wait for the AA to recover him. So the decision had to be made how do we get 2 Leo's to the show? We decided that Kykko would have to stay at home and we would shoe horn Zeus into my little Peugeot 206!! Not an easy feat, but we managed, I don't think Zeus was too impressed.
Zeus was looking pretty good, he is starting to body up and his coat is slowly coming back. He done well by getting a 3rd in a strong Limit Dog class.
I thought the atmosphere on the day was a little flat, would have been improved by a little more cheering and clapping around the ring.
It was good to catch up with old friends aswell as new ones we made on the day.
Thanks to the Rushby's for the picnic outside after the show, made for a good chat and a good laugh
Congratulations to all the winners on the day and all those that were placed. Midland Counties at the weekend then we can have a rest until the LKA!
August 2008 Welsh Kennel Club
Another week, another show this time of year is very busy. An early start down to Builth Wells, not the easiest journey for the dogs, but we made it all in one piece. The rain even held off most of the day, so at least the dogs were dry!
This was Zeus's second time in Limit, still not in full coat but looked good in his class, we were thrilled that he got a second place.
Next came the Dog Challenge Bev & Pete's beautiful boy Lanta gained his 4th CC, great achievement at such a young age, this meant that Zeus had to go back in to the challenge, and to our amazement got the RDCC, absolutely delighted!
We had decided to also take our youngest girl out Kykko, she has not been out for nearly a year, but at just over 3 she is at her peek in full coat, and looked very nice. She was entered in Post Graduate Bitch and came a respectful 2nd, absolutely thrilled that she has her qualification for Cruft 2009!
Many thanks go to the Judge Peter Oriani for thinking so highly of our dogs.
Other fabulous news is that 'Delta' from the Lionslord Kennel, gained her 6th CC and BOB, and had a great result acheiving Group 3, there is no stopping you guys!! Well Done!
A very enjoyable day was had, and the usual trip to the bar for well deserved celebratory drinks, I'm sure these bars are sponsored by Leo people, because that's all you ever see there!! Haha!
August 2008 - Bournemouth
The weekend started early for us as we headed down to the Lionslord Kennel for the weekend, which made our journey to Bournemouth slightly shorter. All I will say a very good weekend was had, plenty of drinks were flowing and very, very much laughter! Thanks to Nigel and Anita for being great hosts (how he got up to make the breakfast is beyond me, but he done a great job)!
So with a few sore heads we set about getting 5 dogs ready for the show the following day, and it rained and rained, but we managed it and an early night was had.
Sunday was a glorious sunny day, although a bit blustery great weather for the Leo's, this was Zeus's first show that he was in Limit Dog, and wow could you tell, he looked like a baby in the ring, plus it didn't help he had no coat. But we were very pleased that he was placed in reserve, many thanks to the Judge Madelaine Lusby.
Big congratulations go to Lionslord Kennel, who had three of their bitches in the challenge, with their lovely Delta gaining her 5th CC. Well Done guys!
This weekend we are of to the Welsh, We will be taking Zeus and also taking Kykko, who has not been in the showring for nearly a year, so we will see how she does.
July 2008 - Swedish Club Show & World Show, Stockholme, Sweden
This was our first time to show in Europe and really didn't know what to expect, well I will try and explain our trip as best as I can. Alcohol does terrible things to the memory!! Hahaha!
We were very lucky that Nigel & Anita Holliday from Lionslord Kennel invited us to go with them to the World Show in Sweden. What started out as just the four of us going, turned out to be quite a party, including Maggie Bryant, Sylvia Horton, Kerry Rushby, Fred Inwood and Balasz Thurso.
So Nigel and Paul drove to Sweden with four dogs in tow,the rest of us had the easy option of flying and meeting them there.
We arrived in Stockholme on Monday and knew we had a day of rest and get the dogs settled in. Tuesday was a different story, trying to bath and blast four dogs in the hotel room, no easy feat!! Thanks to Balasz for offering the use of his room!! I think the maid quit that day! Hahaha!
Wednesday we drove North of Stockholme to enter the Swedish Club show, we were concerned with Zeus as he seemed to have hurt his paw on the cage. But he came through well even in the heat by gaining an Excellent and 2nd Intermediate Dog. More than we had ever hoped for, Zac - Baltizar Iz Poselka Sokol for Lionslord gaining Excellent and 5th Open Dog, and Pluto - Kumatata Awesome Boy for Lionslord gaining Excellent and 4th Open Dog. Myself and Paul were confused with the judging, but Nigel and Anita were on hand to explain how it all works. We sort of got it, eventually!!! Thanks to the Judge Ragnor Leif Hjorth from Norway.
The next day was the World Show, so early nights were planned (the less said about that the better)!!
We arrived early at the show, to get the dogs settled and good views around the ringside. Zeus went into the ring and his movement looked good, and as usual took it all in his stride. I don't think me and Paul have ever been so nervous and it got to the stage were we could hardly breath and I could literally hear Paul's heart pumping, or maybe that was just mine haha! To our utter amazement Zeus gained an Excellent and went on to get 1st in Intermediate Dog. We were absolutely thrilled and once again our heart rates resumed to about normal!
Other placings were:
Mikka - A Beautiful Stranger for New Wind - Excellent - 3rd Open Female
Zac - Baltizar Iz Poselka Sokol for Lionslord - Excellent - 3rd Open Dog
Pluto - Kumatata Awesome Boy for Lionslord - Very Good
Zeus then had to go back in for the Challenge (heart rates peaking once again)! To our utter disbelief Zeus got awarded the CAC, I think I nearly lost my voice I was screaming that much!
Thanks go to the Judge Guido Perisino for thinking so highly of him and special thanks goes to Anita Holiday who showed Zeus on both days, for her expertise and calmness in handling him she was an absolute 'STAR'. Also special thanks to Balasz for getting the dogs looking immaculate on the day, he done a fantastic job in such a small room!
We had a fantastic time and definitely not a trip we will forget in a hurry, the atmosphere on both days was fantastic, and great support from all that attended. The only problem now is that we may have the European 'bug' and can't wait for our next trip!!!
Other News
This weekend sees Zeus's first trip abroad, Nigel & Anita Holliday kindly invited us to join them in Sweden for the Leonberger Club Show and the World Show in Stockholm. As you can imagine we are really excited to be going, and we will bring you all our news when we get back!
June 2008 - Blown Away at Blackpool
What a day, the day started off badly, we had a problem shutting the boot on the car (its just had a new lock as well)! So after about 20 attempts it decided to lock! So we set off, we had just got 10 miles from home and I realised I had forgot my entry tickets! Oooppsss! So I sheepishly told Paul to stop the car, turn around, I just got the look! LOL
So we set off again half an hour late, me thinking judging didn't start until 9:30, ooops wrong again! So as soon as we got there Paul was more or less straight in! Again, I got another look!!!!!
Zeus moved well on the day and took it in his stride, the Judge Mr Ellis Hulme gave Zeus a First in Post Grad, he went back in for the challenge and to our utter amazement gave him the Dog CC, we are so pleased this is our first CC EVER!!! The elation didn't stop there Zeus then gained BOB, our thanks go to the judge for thinking so highly of him at only 19 months.
We were told by a steward that the winds were estimated at 75 miles an hour and if you hadn't got BOB then they advised to get on the road, we thought maybe we should go also as we had quite a journey home. Just as we walked out, one of the marquee's split in half and people were running!!!! Debris was flying everywhere, it was really scary, as we left Ambulances were arriving, fire engines and police! Everyone was told to evacuate immediately. So that was our decision made for us.
What a day, surely one we will never forget in a hurry!!
Hope everyone got home safe and sound and nobody was hurt in the chaos!
June 2008 - Southern Counties
Another long journey down to Southern Counties, very damp but a mild day.
Zeus was entered into Post Graduate Dog and when I got the catalogue I realised what a big class it was, 23 entries!
The class was split so the Judge Mr John feehan had more room to move the dogs, and move them he didd! Will have to take note if Paul goes under him again to book him in for fitness classes!! There was a few red faces in there, easy for me to say sitting on the sidelines (and not chuckling at Paul, huffing and puffing)!
Zeus seemed a bit giddy on the day, and he didn't move his best, but he still got placed third which we were pleased with as this was such a big class.
Stars of the day had to be the fantastic stewards, Bill & Geraldine Crawley, Bill for his proffessionalism in getting everyone organised and in order, and Geraldine for the endless amounts of sweets she supplied for the exhibitors as well as spectators. This made for a great atmosphere.
Special congratulations go to Nigel & Anita Holliday for gaining there 3rd CC with Pluto and Delta for getting the BCC, a very poignant day as last year this was their late Sox's day, a great tribute to him.
Well done to all other winners on the day and all that were placed.
May 2008 - Bath
This was our first ever visit to Bath and we were really looking forward to it, expecting nice weather beautiful scenery. Well the scenery was beautiful, but it certainly lived up to it's name!!! It poured down nearly all day, but we were lucky that the car park wasn't that far away from the tent, so towels loaded we got Zeus inside and done our best to towel dry him.
Well this was Zeus's first show in Post Graduate Dog, he is now up against the big boys!! So were pleased that he got a second place out of 7 entries, thanks to the judge Mr D Cavill.
Congratulations go to all the other winners on the day and all others that were placed. There was a good atmosphere ringside despite the gloomy weather.
MAY 2008 - Birmingham National
On my own at the show again and Zeus's last show in Junior, again no pressure. Beautiful sunny day at the show at Stafford and credit to the committee it was very well organised with plastic matting around the benching area in case of bad weather (no muddy feet).
I met a couple on the way in from Cannock! (can't remember their names, must be my age) who have been looking at Leo's now for four years, they stayed around the show ring all day and thoroughly enjoyed it! Great when people are coming into the breed enjoy it and show their enthusiasm, ask questions about the breed - it brings back memories of when I first went into the breed. Brilliant!
Zeus was his normal chilled out self and I was pretty relaxed too. The 'Leo Girls' looked after me well on the day, Geraldine thanks for the brew, and Lins went one better with her mobile mini-bar. Thanks, HICK!!
Good entries on the day, really hot aswell, which made Zeus all the more lethargic, so I geed him up and in we went. Zeus was pulled out First in Junior, which I was thrilled with not just because it was his last time in Junior, but it saved me from being interogated by Kirsty, a blow by blow account of what I had done wrong (oh no, not Zeus HaHa)!!!
I also showed Sylvia & Bert Hortons puppy Derby - Sylbert Cathedral Mountain, who got a Reserve, good result for a young girl but even better for her litter sister Sylbert Victoria At Kensalroag who gained a first, nice young promising bitch and shown well by owner Judith Dawe.
Next in was Bo - Sylbert Bow River, who also gained a Reserve, but before being finally placed the judge put me second, I thought great, but then the judge came over and said he had got me mixed up with Ray Bolt and swapped us over. So I went home with Carol and plan to live happily ever after!!!! HaHa! (Carol we must be more careful, teehee)
Congratulations to all the winners on the day, especially to Nigel & Anita Holliday with their 'awesome' boy Pluto - Kumamatata Awesome Boy for Lionslord, who acheived Best in Breed and made the cut for the Working Group final but just wasn't placed, one day guys a LEO will get it.
Thanks to the Judge Mr Geoff Duffield who thought so highly of Zeus, it was great to catch up with everyone, oh and thanks Lins for the photo's - you can really see my sunburn LOL.
See you all at Bath in a few weeks, and Ray wear a different coloured shirt next time mate!!!!
By Paul
APRIL 2008 - WELKS
We only decided to take Zeus to WELKS this year as our girls are very much out of coat in April. We were fairly lucky with the weather but the muddy ground was something else to contend with!
Zeus was entered into Junior Dog, quite a small class of only 4 Juniors, we were thrilled that he got a First place.
Paul was busy throughout the rest of the day showing the Sylbert Leonbergers who also got placings.
Zeus and Paul returned to the ring for Best Dog and to our utter amazement Zeus was presented with his first RDCC, which is a great achievement as a Junior Dog and earns his Stud Book No. To say we were thrilled was an understatement!!! A big thanks to the Judge Joan Rushby who thought so highly of him.
So we returned home with big smiles and lots of mud everywhere!!
Congratulations also go to all the other winners on the day, it was a good atmosphere and great to have a catch up with everyone.
See Zeus Gallery for photo's
March 2008 - Crufts
Just returned from a great day at Crufts, held at the NEC Birmingham, luckily the weather stayed fine and dry, always a bit of a worry.
We arrived in plenty of time, three of our dogs had qualified but we decided to only take two of them.
First in the ring was Zeus in Junior Dog, we were very pleased that the judge, Jennie Davie placed him third in his class. Thanks to Donna for sending us this lovely photograph.
Nanook unfortunately didn't get placed in her Limit class.
It was good to catch up with everyone and we really enjoyed our day, special thanks to Lins, who provided a much needed mini-bar ringside. (Great for the nerves)!
Congratulations go to all the winners on the day, all very well deserved.
We returned on Sunday for a little retail therapy and came away with many treats for the dogs, which I am sure they will enjoy.
Other news that is happening this week is Zeus is going for his Hip and Elbow score, so that will be a nervous few weeks waiting for the results! I will post on the website as soon as we receive them. So we are keeping everything crossed!
February 2008 - NWPB Open Show
A very cold but sunny day at The Sports Connexion, Ryton on Dunsmore, we had to wait for the Great Danes to be judged first then we were in.
We were very pleased with Zeus performance, he came first in Junior Dog then went on to win BOB. Thanks go to the Judge Caroline King Cherne who thought so highly of him.
We stayed for the group but didn't get any further, thanks go to everyone who stayed until the end to support us I know we were all really frozen by then.
Congratulation go also to all the other winners on the day.
January 2008 - Manchester Championship Show by Paul
Well this was was my first show on my own without my better half (no pressure!).
Arrived at the showground in plenty of time on a cold, wet and wintery day (no good for the Leo coats or my hairstyle!)
I only took Zeus, one's enough I was never good at multi-tasking! lol, 10 entries with 9 in attendance, Zeus went well on the day and got a First place, thanks to Judge Sue Thomas. This is his qualification for Crufts 2009!
Great atmosphere on the day, great to meet up with friends and catch up (we won't talk about the vibrating massage chair, you know who you are!!).
Anyway, back to the show, some great results on the day, Bev and Pate's Lanta gaining his BOB and his first CC, congratulations to the both, very well deserved, and by the sound of the cheer that went up everyone agreed with the result. It's the first time I have seen Pete lost for words!
Congratulations to Anita and Nigel with Mika who gained a first in Limit Bitch, fantastic result.
Thanks to Carol and Steve for videoing and to Kerry for answering Kirsty plea for someone to video Zeus in her absence.
I stayed to watch the Working Group final, Lanta didn't progress any further, but there is time yet!
So I had the all clear to return home with Zeus gaining his first! Phew!
Congratulations also go to all the other winners on the day
We will put some photo's on as soon as our computer is back on-line.
December 2007 - LKA
A very enjoyable day out at the NEC for the 2007 LKA. It's nice to meet up with everyone and catch up as well as giving out crimbo cards and saving on post. Although I ended up chatting too much and came home with half of them in my bag!! Great to meet up with some new friends, you know who you are if your reading this and I think we will be firm friends over the years and great drinking buddies, great for that occasional celebration!
We only took Zeus with us, he was looking great and behaved very well on the day as he slept most of it! He came a very respectful second in Junior Dog beaten by Bev's loveley boy Kwenobe Balfen Hullanta. We just can't get passed him!!
Subject to confirmation Zeus is Top Leonberger Puppy 2007, so fingers crossed!
Thanks to everyone who had lovely things to say about Zeus, we are very proud of his acheivements this year and are really looking forward to the shows in 2008.
Congratulations go to all the winners on the day, all very well deserved.
November 2007 - West Bromwich & Wednesbury Canine Society
We attended the above open show last weekend to support our local show, we arrived in pouring down rain and icy cold winds, okay for the Leo's but not so great for us. We entered Zeus into his first Junior class and he came a respectable second, beaten by Kwenobe Balfen Hullanta. Next in was Kykko who also got a second beaten by Kinghern Troubleshooter, so a good day all in all.
Congratulations must go to Bev & Pete as they went on to win the Working Group with Kwenobe Balfen Hullanta. He is a lovely boy and very well deserved.
October 2007 - LCGB 6th Championship Show
Well our weekend started off by a mammoth wash and blow dry session, it's been a while since we have taken more than two dogs to a show, this time we took three so our sympathy goes out to you guys who take anymore than that! Well it was definitely worth it even though we both had extremely bad backs (we need to invest in a grooming table!)
We arrived at the show in plenty of time and got the troupe settled in, first in was Zeus - Sylbert Emperor Ridge At Sancholees in Puppy Dog, we were absolutely over the moon that he came first in his class, next in was Kykko - Sancholees Aphrodites Rock in Graduate Bitch she also gained her rossette with a VHC, she was a little unsettled on the day, maybe because it's been a while since we have had her showing. Nanook - Capauden Three Lions At Sancholees was next in and gained an incredible second place out of 16 entries, we were absolutely thrilled.
Zeus returned to the ring and gained his Best Puppy Dog and then went on to win Best Puppy in Show! To say we are ecstatic was an understatement, many thanks go to the judges on the day Mrs C E Cartledge and Mrs J Hammond that thought so highly of him.
Also thanks for the very nice comments around the ring about him, it made for a great atmosphere and made the day very special for us. Congratulations also go to the other winners on the day all very well deserved.
A few personal thanks go to Sylvia and Bert Horton for letting us have such a wonderful boy and thanks also to Anita and Nigel for their knowledge and guidance over the last few months.
September 2007 - City Of Birmingham
GREAT NEWS!! - Zeus - Sylbert Emperor Ridge at Sancholees, gained a first in Puppy Dog and went on to win Best Puppy in Breed, completely Ecstatic We went on to the Puppy Group stages but after a very warm and long day I think Zeus had, had enough and bowed out gracefully!
Nanook - Capauden Three Lions at Sancholees also getting a Third Post Graduate Bitch and her qualification to Crufts 2008.
Many thanks go to Anita and Nigel Holliday (Lionslord Kennel) for showing Zeus for us as Paul had to work, they did a great job and kept me in order!
Also many thanks to Judith Meakin for showing Nanook and getting her qualification.
Other news Zeus brother (Sylbert Toboggan Creek at Gunnersbrook) also got a second Puppy dog and his qualification to Crufts 2008.
August 2007
A very wet day at Builth Wells,Wales! But after taking an eternity to get there we had a great result with Zeus - Sylbert Emperor Ridge at Sancholees, getting a second in Puppy Dog, so not a washout after all.
July 2007
Zeus has qualified for Cruft 2008!!
Just returned from a great day out at Malvern County Showground for the NWPB Championship Show. Great result for us, Zeus - Sylbert Emperor Ridge At Sancholees came second in Puppy Dog. We are ecstatic with the result as this is only his second show and his qualification for Crufts 2008 and thanks go to all the people who said very nice comments about him, we are looking forward to the rest of the year. Other good news for his two sisters, Bow - Sylbert Bow River came second in Puppy Bitch and also gained her qualification for Crufts and Saffi - Sylbert Forever Faberge for Lionslord had a great result coming first in Puppy Bitch.
June 2007
Had a great day out at Southern Counties, this was Zeus's first show, we were a bit worried how he would perform, what with the heat, stage fright and seeing his brother and sisters again, but as I thought he took it all in his stride and performed well on the day, considering how hot it was. His class was rather large because there was no minor puppy group (19 in his class!!) He got pulled out to the last eight which we were really pleased with as there were some big boys in there! His sisters faired better with the lovely Saffi (Sylbert Forever Faberge At Lionslord) getting an impressive 2nd and her qualification for Crufts 2008, and the beautiful Tia (Sylbert Lady Tia At Illeleoni) getting a VHC. Thanks to Sylv & Bert who provided a much needed shelter (tent) for the babies to keep them cool! Congratulations to everyone who qualified on the day. It was a great day out!
March 2007
Just returned from a great day out at Crufts Sancholees Aphrodites Rock came third in post graduate bitch, unfortunately Capauden Three Lions came away with nothing, but we still had a good time and better luck next time. As they say you always take the best dogs home.
We returned to Cruft on Sunday to do some retail therapy, as on show day you have no chance! The dogs got a lot of nice treats on the day, new leads and food etc, etc!! We have also changed Nanooks name to Capauden Three Lions At Sancholeees. This was was done there and then on the day, great service from the Kennel Club. Our feet were very tired, but yet another great day out and a fantastic chance to soak up the atmosphere, as you can't do that on show day!!
January 2007
We have just collected our beautiful little boy on New Year's day from Sylvia and Bert Horton. We had three handsome boys to choose from, but after an agonising debate we chose our scrumtious:
Zeus - Sylberts Emperor Ridge at Sancholees.
Just a note to say thanks to Sylv and Bert for giving us such a gorgeous little boy.
Looking forward to introducing him to the Leo world in 2007!
