World Dog Show, Herning, Denmark June 2010

Tuesday evening Paul and I set off down to Newbury to start our journey to the World Dog Show, arriving quite late and still lots to pack into the motorhome and the van we got to bed just after midnight! We were all up by 4am and excited to make our mammoth journey, Nigel & Anita in the motorhome and myself and Paul plus Zeus, Pink and Delta in the van, the convoy began.  We met up with Graham and Elaine Lucas at Maidstone along with Zeiss and made our way to the Channel Tunnel.  My first time on the tunnel and wow, how quick before I knew we were in Calais!  Next stop would be Belgium for a walk with the dogs and refreshments..........ohhh and to go to the cheap fag shop to get plenty for our journey!
Next stop was Holland, quite disappointed I never saw any windmills :-(  Onwards our convoy went up through Germany which seemed to take forever!!!  And definitely not for the faint hearted, they are more than mad drivers out there, just glad I wasn't driving!!  Plenty of stops later and doggy walks we arrived in Herning around 11pm, some 834 miles later!!!!  I didn't dare say to Paul about 1pm "are we nearly there yet"!!!  Arrived at the campsite only to be told we were to late to book in.........so we decided to park up right outside the gates and be first in the queue the next morning.  So really you would of thought everyone would have been shattered and would want to get their head down.......................oh NO! The beer started flowing and from what I can remember we got to bed around 6am!!!  Bang, Bang on the door at 7am, we are told to move to our spot on the campsite, how myself and Anita moved the vehicles was all a bit of a blur.  In the meantime we had lost one of our party as we discovered about an hour later.........oops where was Nigel?  I went to go and look for him and found him wandering aimlessly around the campsite, thinking that we had been abducted by aliens!!
We had a lovely couple of days just chilling and enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and making merriment on the campsite, met some great friends and lots of laughter!!
Saturday was the Danish Leonberger Club Show, about an hours drive from the campsite.  All the dogs were prepared and ready for the day.  We set up camp at the lovely location and waited for our turn with Zeus.  All a bit confusing as the order of dogs is much different from that of home.  Zeus was entered in Open Dog class, a huge number of around 20 dogs in total, so a lot of waiting around for him as the critiques on each dog took a while.  The Judge gave Zeus a lillac ribbon, which was an Excellent, very pleased!! So he was going into the shortlist.  Zeus got called back in alongside all the other males that had received and Excellent, the judge moved, moved and moved them!!  He got down to the last 4 males, so we were thrilled he had a place!  He placed Zeus 2nd behind a very nice young male, we were chuffed to bits that the judge thought so highly of him amongst a very challenging class.
Paul and Zeus were then called back into the ring to compete for Best Male in Show, they called for all 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, something we don't do in the UK in each group.  To our delight Zeus got the 3rd Best Male in Show and won a lovely shield and a bag of food, what a great result for him. A good excuse for a few celebrations that evening!!
Next day was the World Show, which was situated right next door to the campsite, a huge venue with lots of room, maybe a little too spread out!  We found our hall and got all the dogs settled.  Two rings for Leonbergers which is always a bit of a nightmare trying to watch both rings, Zeiss was in first in the Junior ring and gained an Excellent, Elaine was very nervous but handled Zeiss beautifully although he was very playful the judge obviously like him and got a 3rd in the Junior Class, Graham and Elaine were absolutely ecstatic and so thrilled with their result.........well done guys we are so proud of you!!
Next in was Zeus, 28 males this time so another hard class for him, some real big boys!  He was moved again and again and gained another Excellent, thrilled!  I don't know who was more knackered Zeus or Paul!!  No critiques at this show, which was a bone of contention with a few exhibitors, but like in the UK we are used with this way of showing.
Zeus was called back in and gained a respectable 3rd in his class, so another great result for us and very pleased with his performance.
So after a little bit of shopping we headed back to the campsite as it was very hot in the halls aswell as outside and decided to get on the road and head towards Germany.  Not a good idea to be flying the England flag from the van as we headed into Germany as England had just lost 4-1 in the World Cup!!!  We had a few beeps of horns and German flags waved at us! But we set up camp late in the evening had a lovely BBQ courtesy of Nigel and a few cheese and biscuits followed by some well deserved beverages!
Our final leg into the UK eventually arriving at Newbury around 11pm, absolutely shattered, we decided to have a few drinks and reminice about our holiday.  Going to bed around 3.30am, I noticed Mikka was very wet on her back end, I thought nothing more about it and left Anita and Paul to let the dogs out for a final pee.  I was woken by chaos around 5am, only to be told Mikka had 2 puppies on the ground!!!!! OMG......what timing!  What a day we had, puppy after puppy arrived, 14 puppies later and that was it, unfortunately 3 didn't make it but Mikka had 11 bundles of joy, 6 boys and 5 girls.  How privilaged Paul and I were to be there at such a special time and to have seen our future little girl being born.  All puppies and Mum are doing great.  We eventually got back home at 11pm, only for me to be back at work the very next day!!!
It was a fantastic trip, met some wonderful people and well worth the very long journey, and Mikka having her puppies was the icing on the cake!  Roll on Paris 2011!!! x

Crufts 2010 - Zeus gets BOB!!!!!!!

Early start and off to the NEC, poor Paul had only had 2 hours sleep due to work commitments the evening before, so he was very tired.  But arrived in good time ready to get Zyan and Zeus settled on their benches.  First in was Zyan in Special Puppy Dog alongside him was Zeiss his brother kindly handled by Anita Holiday, good results Zyan got the third place and Zeiss the Reserve, so very pleased.
We had a little time before Zeus went in, it was good to catch up with friends and meet some new people interested in the Leo's...........as anyone knows I love to talk!!!
So it was Zeus's turn in Open Male, he was in good coat and looking much more mature and Paul look cool calm and collected.  The judge Judi Oriani went over a good strong open male line up, including a couple of European entries.  She moved them and to our delight give Zeus the first, absolutely chuffed to pieces!
So we awaited the Challenge and to our absolute amazement gave Zeus the Dog CC, what an achievement for us we were both totally thrilled and never would have believed it!  So now we had to wait and had time to catch our breath before the BOB.  I don't know who was more nervous me or Paul, Zeus just took everything in his stride and probably hadn't realised what all the fuss was about!
So in my boys went for the BOB, Judi handed that special Red card to Paul, I screamed so loudly, so I apologise to whoever was stood next to me, it was all a bit of a blur and I don't remember and had plenty of tears in my eyes.  This is a day we will never forget in a hurry and a pure adrenaline rush and a dream I have had since I was a little girl, that was just to attend Cruft's never mind getting BOB there!!!!
So time to grab something to eat and a wait until the group, which came around in a flash, we went down to the main arena to make sure we were there on time, Zeus had lots of pictures taken and he just took it all in.  I didn't go into the main arena as I had Zyan with me, so we got ourselves settled in front of the big screens just outside.  Many thanks to Nigel, Anita, Steph, Maggie, Sinead, Joe, Graham and Elaine for staying with me and supporting Zeus and Paul, Sylvia, Judith and Ivan took their seats in the arena to make sure there was plenty of cheers.
I was so proud of them both as they glided around the arena to claps and cheers, the judge went over the 22 breeds and then went on to select her final seven, unfortunately Zeus wasn't shortlisted, but I hope he has done the Leo's as proud as we are of him.  Our day at Cruft's is definitely up there with one of the best day's ever and one we will never forget.
Our thanks go to Judi Oriani our breed judge for thinking so highly of Zeus and all our friends for the kind emails, cards and comments we have received, it has meant so much.  See you all at the LCGB Open Show xxx

Manchester 2010

Well a new yaer and a new start, some of you may know we had one of our male puppies back at the age of 10 months.  So we have decided to keep him and see how he goes in the show ring as he is very much his Daddies double.  So we booked him in at Manchester along with his brother Zyan and Daddy Zeus.  We were a little apprehensive as with all the bad weather we have had and Christmas little training has been done.
Zyan was kindly handled in Puppy Dog by Anita Holiday, and Paul had the pressure of handling our new youngster Rio in Puppy Dog.  Zyan handled like a dream and was very much in his element, Rio on the other hand decided to make a laughing stock of Paul and thought he was entered in the 'Bucking Bronco' competition.  This was his first outing in the ring and we definitely need to take him to ringcraft, but at least he enjoyed himself and got many laughs around the ring!  Zyan doing a lot better was placed first, which was fantastic!  The judge being very kind and gave Rio a VHC to our amazement, she did say he has potential aslong as we can keep him on four legs!!
Next in was Zeus in Open Dog, looking amazing in full coat and has gained a little weight, up against some very good competition.  He moved very well and took it all in his stride, to our delight the judge placed him first..........absolutely fantastic!!  Could this be the day we had been waiting for?  We have been here before so it's never a given!
Next Challenge Dog, the judge moved all the dogs in each class, my heart was beating out of my chest i'm sure she could hear it.  She went to pick up the Certificate from her judging table and turned round, took another look and headed towards Paul and Zeus..........YES!!!!, It was ours, his 3rd ticket, a huge cheer went up around the ring.  Paul just looked at me in amazement, I ran over and give my boys a huge hug!  This is our first ever Champion and what a feeling it was, makes all the hard work, travelling etc all worth it!  A day we will never forget, and a very proud moment for his breeder Sylvia Horton!
It was also great to see some Zeus offspring in the puppy classes with Thalia gaining a second and her qualification for Crufts 2011 along with her brother Zyan.  Also in the ring was Zeiss in Junior Dog gaining a Reserve, and other offspring from Bev & Pete Hellewells litter, Kabir gaining a Reserve in Minor Puppy Dog, unfortunately his sister Yenta was unplaced but done fantastic at the LKA achieving First Minor Puppy Bitch.  So we are very happy that the Zeus offspring are doing well in the showring.

January 2010

Happy New Year to everyone, my apologies for the lack of updates over recent months it has been marred with a bit of sadness with one thing and another, our biggest sadness was the sudden death of our dear friend Bert Horton, Zeus's breeder.  As a lot of you know we are very close to both Sylvia and Bert and it did come as a massive shock.  But we are hoping 2010 will be a better year, we lost a lot of very nice Leo's in the UK last year and my heart goes out to all those that lost very dear friends.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY- 21st January 2010

A huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our Vegas Litter, Zyan, Rio, Teddy, Zeiss, Thalia, Iona, Aggie and Yoshi. One year old today we really can not believe where the time has gone, hope they all have a lovely day!  Love mummy Nanook and Daddy Zeus xxxxxxxx

October 2009 - Driffield Championship Show

Midweek show meant me on my own with out Kirsty, as she had to work.  Early 6am start but arrived at the showground in plenty of time.  Luckily managed to sneak in and park behind the Lionslord stand, which made things easier.

Anita and Steph had some issues with their marquee the night before, it had collapsed so a couple of gazebo's strapped together made a makeshift stand (little did they know mother nature would later test their erection skills)! I mean keeping the gazebo's upright!!!

Sun was shining, no rain weyhey!  I had our two boys Zeus and Zyan, so my hands were full.  Zeus in Open, Zyan in Minor Puppy & Puppy Stakes.........thanks Kirsty!

Thanks to Sue Brailsford for pointing me in the right direction for my benching numbers, and her comments to me ''you can tell Kirsty isn't here!''....cheers Sue LOL!

Zyan first in, the sun was very bright and blinding so the judge Glenda Smith decided to move us around the ring in the opposite direction, how I managed to go around the ring the other way without Zyan tripping me up was a miracle, I don't know who looked more awkward me or Zyan!!

Zyan got a respectable second place in a strong class, really pleased.  He takes it all in his stride for a youngster, loves being in the ring and is coming on steadily.

Zeus was in Open, again all of us running around the opposite way, it's like using your other hand (woops, that sounds so wrong).  Zeus moved well, and I was absolutely thrilled when Glenda said ''first'' to Zeus, couldn't believe it.

So into the Challenge, mind racing, adrenaline kicking in, dry mouth you know the feeling when your totally in control.....NOT!  No pressure, Kirsty not here, oh pressure, pressure, pressure.... So around the ring we went, Zeus moved well and stood solid as a rock, the judge going over the dogs again, then through the glare of the sun she came towards Zeus with her hand out......Yes, Yes, Yes!!!  Wooohooooo his 2nd CC was ours, absolutely over the moon.

So in I went with Zeus up against the lovely Summer, and to my amazement he was awarded the BOB, fantastic so pleased.  A few phone calls back to Kirsty to report on our progress, she was absolutely thrilled, and gutted that she had missed it.  Well it did take me a while to convince her it was true and I wasn't joking!!!

So a wait for the group, but I suddenly remembered I had puppy stakes to do arrrgghhh!!!, raced around to try and find out a time and ring number and just made it to the ring, phew!  There were approx 13 puppies in the stakes class, to my amazement Zyan got a Reserve....brilliant!

So the Group beckoned and as we waited with anticipation in the collecting ring, the announcer said ''The Leonberger'', so off we wnt striding into the main ring, fantastic proud moment, it's the first time for me and Zeus in the UK, as his first CC was at Blackpool 2008, and the show was abandoned due to weather conditions.  Zeus made the shortlist, he had made the final 6, but that's where it ended, but thrilled and elated that he got that far, what a day!!!

Thanks to Glenda Smith for awarding Zeus his 2nd CC, and thanks to Kirsty for working....haha, only joking!  Also thanks to Anita, Steph and Leslie for looking after me in Kirsty's absence.

September 2009 - Richmond Championship Show

Well it's a while since we've been out and about showing, what with one thing and another, we have just returned from a lovely holiday in Turkey with all my family, so a well earned break.

We were invited down to Lionslord the evening before Richmond, which made sense as it would have been a good 3 hour drive for us, and a very early start!  So arrived at Lionslord early Friday evening, as usual fantastic hosts, great food, expertly prepared by Nigel and the drinks were flowing, but not too much of a late night as we still had to be up fairly early.

Arrived at the showground with only minutes to spare, it's not the quickest showground to enter, but the sun was shining and it was going to be a beautiful day.  Paul rushed in with Zyan, there were four puppies in his class, and one being his brother Zeiss who Anita was happy to handle, so lovely for us to see two of our homebred babies in the class together.  They both behaved extremely well and moved around the ring very well, to our delight Zyan was selected in first place and his brother Zeiss got the second, absolutely thrilled this is Zeiss's first show and his qualification for Crufts 2010!  Congratulations to his owners Graham and Elaine Lucas, who were completly thrilled also.

Zeus was our next dog to go into the ring in Open dog, he also moved very well and got a respectable second in his class, beaten by Bev & Pete's beautiful boy Lanta, in the challenge Lanta was selected for the DCC and his 14th!! What a great achievement for Bev & Pete, well done!  Zeus was called back in for the challenge, but I think the heat got the better of him and he looked a little tired.

Zyan went into the challenge for Best Puppy, only to be beaten by his half sister Lara, so totally thrilled that the Zeus siblings are doing very well so far.

So, we have exciting times ahead over the next few weeks, along with the UK Championship Shows, Zeus is travelling to Leonberg in Germany to enter the Leonberger Club show, thanks to Nigel & Anita for taking him for us, unfortunately we will not be attending as we are dog sitting the Lionslord Kennel.   Then we are off to Bratislavia to the World Show, a long road trip but I'm sure we are going to have plenty of laughs along the way.  So I will bring you all the news when we get back!

July 2009 - Leeds Championship Show

This would be Zyans first Championship show at the age of 6 months and 4 days.  An early start up to Leeds and the weather wasn't looking promising, as predicted as soon as we started getting the dogs out it poured down.

Zyan was first in the ring in Puppy Dog, no Minor Puppy at Leeds so he was in with the big boys!  He took it all in his stride and to our delight came 2nd, which we were really thrilled with as it's his qualification for Crufts 2010, so the pressures off!

Daddy Zeus went into Open Dog and  got the second.  Onto Challenge Dog and Lanta gained the CC, meaning Zeus was aked to re enter the ring and move again.  To our delight the Judge Mr Malcolm Smith awarded Zeus the RCC.  Brilliant!

Zyans sister Thalia - Sancholees Mirage also came to the show, and it was really lovely to see her.  Carol is doing a great job with her and she looked beautiful and took it all in her stride.  She also got the second in Puppy Bitch and also gets her qualification for Crufts 2010.  A great day for the pups on their first Championship show! We couldn't asked for anything more.

Well done to all the winners and placed dogs on the day.  Thanks to Bev Helliwell for letting me use the pictures she took.  As usual I forgot the camera!

June 2009 - European Winners Show, Dublin

Paul and I had the easy option to get to Dublin by flying, as Zeus would be travelling with Team Lionslord, we all met up on the Friday night.  Sinead and Joe very kindly offered to put us all up in their beautiful house, and I would like to thank them for being absolutely fantastic hosts, we had a great time ( a few bad heads, but a GREAT time)!

Saturday was a day of bathing and preparing dogs and everyone got stuck in like a production line (apart from Paul and Joe) less said about that the better!!!  All dogs done, we had an early night as we had an early start the next day.

We arrived at the showground in very good time and got all the dogs settled in the shade, it was going to be a scorcher.

Only 16 entries for Leonbergers, which was quite disappointing.  Zeus was entered in Open class handled by Balasz Thurzo.  He looked and moved like a dream in the sun and Hans Muller gave him the first.  Zeus then went back in to the ring for the challenge and was awarded the CACIB, we were thrilled, he now had the European Winner 2009 title.  Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.

BOB was against Nigel and Anita's beautiful girl Delta, so whatever happened we were happy!  Zeus just clinched it and was awarded the BOB..............amazing!

After quite a wait and in the scorching sun, we had to wait for the Group, eventually they were called in to the collecting ring 48 BOB's in there.  Zeus strided into the ring with Balasz and looked good, the judge moved them and had a good look at all his BOB's, eventually making his shortlist.............we couldn't believe it Zeus was in the last 6................by this point I think I stopped breathing LOL.  He moved his last 6 again and let another 2 go..............Zeus had a Group placing, again they were moved, lights flashing and music, eventually making his choice Zeus was 4th.....................thrilled is not the word, this is our biggest achievement to date and we certainly had the luck of the Irish with us.

Another amazing day for Team Lionslord as they had the Green Star, CACIB with Delta, and Marley was the star of the show by winning BP, going on into the group and winning BPIS, Day 2...........What a day!!!

Many thanks to all the lovely people we met on the day and a special thanks to Balasz who showed Zeus at his best, we are very grateful. Also huge thanks to Nigel and Anita Holiday for transporting Zeus to Ireland we really appreciate it.

Thanks once again to Sinead and Joe for their wonderful Irish hospitality! And thanks to the breed judge Hans Muller and Group Judge Micheal McCarthy for thinking so highly of our boy.

(Pictures of Zeus and Balasz from the show on his pictures page)

June 2009 - SKC

Well we've had a lovely few weeks at the dog shows with great weather, firstly it was the SKC a girls trip away!  Anita and Stephy made there trip up to me on the Friday night so we could set off to edinburgh at a reasonable time on Saturday morning picking Kerry up on the way.  A very good night was had on the Friday, less said about the better, but we were lucky we made it to Scotland!!!  Arrived around 4pm got the dogs fed, watered and  walked and we thought it was a good idea to soak up the atmosphere in the bar.  But we were very good and in bed around midnight, ready for the show.  Woke up to the most glorious day in Edinburgh, completly expecting very heavy showers and freezing cold, but we had sun, sun and more sun!

Marley (Lionslord Babylon Child) was first in puppy dog, gaining a second in his class, next to go in was Zeus in Limit Dog, handled by Kerry Rushby who done a fantastic job and getting the first, I was thrilled!  He then went back into the challenge and Frank Kane gave him the RCC, again fantastic result for us.

Next in was Pink (Lionslord Byzantia) handled by Kerry Rushby again we were thrilled she got the first, the day was going well.  Delta was the final dog to go in with Anita in Open Bitch, and she got the second, in the challenge they were called back in and they got the RCC.  Best puppy was given to Pink, what an amazing day and well worth the trip, definitely another girly trip for next year as we had such a laugh and it was good to catch up with all our Scottish friends.

May 2009

Bit of a hectic time lately what with show's and outings, we attended WELKS and had a great day out and the weather was kind, we only took Zeus with us and he came first in a very strong Limit class and picked up the RCC, absolutely thrilled.

Bank Holiday weekend we managed to get away as our son was home on leave and with a bit of persuasion he looked after the dogs so we could have a little mini break.  We headed down south and attended the Kent County Fair, we took Zyan with us for the 'experience'.  We entered him into the novelty class for 'most handsome male', and he had his first red rossette, as you can imagine with a 15 week old puppy he had plenty of attention, which he took all in his stride.  I think he is 'Mr Laid Back', just like his Dad, a chip of the ole block!

Next show was Birmingham National, again the sun shone and we had a great day out, Zeus came first in Limit and again went on to get the RCC, it was nice to catch up with friends and it's nice to see some new faces with lots of puppies coming out this year.

Next weekend we are having a girly trip to Edinburgh, this will be my first visit to SKC and one I'm looking forward too.  Don't be alarmed though I will not be taking Zeus into the ring!!!!!  Kerry Rushby has kindly agreed to do the honours.  So I will hopefully post an update on our return.

Finally a huge Congratulations to Bev and Pete Helliwell on the arrival of the Fendi and Zeus puppies, another big litter comprising of 6 males and 3 females.  Well done Fendi, I know there are going to be some excited new owners, there maybe an opportunity for a puppy from this litter, if you are seriously interested please contact Bev or myself to discuss further.

October 2008 LCGB

ZeusLCGB08

Well I must apologise for very few updates over the last month, it's been a bit hectic at home as Callum has moved to Harrogate to the Army Foundation College to embark on his career in the REME.  We have also had a well deserved holiday for 2 weeks in Egypt, I must thank Penny Dabell from Vectiseleon Leonbergers for looking after 3 of our dogs and Anita and Nigel at Lionslord for having Zeus as a guest, you did a great job guys!

So the show scene is now quietening down, its been a bit of a mad summer and Paul and I feel like we have been living in the car LOL.

LCGB Championship show is always a highlight a good chance to see a lot of Leo's.

I started bathing Kykko and Zeus around 4pm, Paul rang to say he was on his way home from work, so I thought great another pair of hands!  Paul returned home at 8pm!!!  His car had broken down and he had to wait for the AA to recover him.  So the decision had to be made how do we get 2 Leo's to the show?  We decided that Kykko would have to stay at home and we would shoe horn Zeus into my little Peugeot 206!! Not an easy feat, but we managed, I don't think Zeus was too impressed.

Zeus was looking pretty good, he is starting to body up and his coat is slowly coming back.  He done well by getting a 3rd in a strong Limit Dog class.

I thought the atmosphere on the day was a little flat, would have been improved by a little more cheering and clapping around the ring.

It was good to catch up with old friends aswell as new ones we made on the day.

Thanks to the Rushby's for the picnic outside after the show, made for a good chat and a good laugh

Congratulations to all the winners on the day and all those that were placed.  Midland Counties at the weekend then we can have a rest until the LKA!

August 2008 Welsh Kennel Club

Another week, another show this time of year is very busy.  An early start down to Builth Wells, not the easiest journey for the dogs, but we made it all in one piece.  The rain even held off most of the day, so at least the dogs were dry!

This was Zeus's second time in Limit, still not in full coat but looked good in his class, we were thrilled that he got a second place.

Next came the Dog Challenge Bev & Pete's beautiful boy Lanta gained his 4th CC, great achievement at such a young age, this meant that Zeus had to go back in to the challenge, and to our amazement got the RDCC, absolutely delighted!

We had decided to also take our youngest girl out Kykko, she has not been out for nearly a year, but at just over 3 she is at her peek in full coat, and looked very nice.  She was entered in Post Graduate Bitch and came a respectful 2nd, absolutely thrilled that she has her qualification for Cruft 2009!

Many thanks go to the Judge Peter Oriani for thinking so highly of our dogs.

Other fabulous news is that 'Delta' from the Lionslord Kennel, gained her 6th CC and BOB, and had a great result acheiving Group 3, there is no stopping you guys!! Well Done!

A very enjoyable day was had, and the usual trip to the bar for well deserved celebratory drinks, I'm sure these bars are sponsored by Leo people, because that's all you ever see there!! Haha!

August 2008 - Bournemouth

The weekend started early for us as we headed down to the Lionslord Kennel for the weekend, which made our journey to Bournemouth slightly shorter.  All I will say a very good weekend was had, plenty of drinks were flowing and very, very much laughter!  Thanks to Nigel and Anita for being great hosts (how he got up to make the breakfast is beyond me, but he done a great job)!

So with a few sore heads we set about getting 5 dogs ready for the show the following day, and it rained and rained, but we managed it and an early night was had.

Sunday was a glorious sunny day, although a bit blustery great weather for the Leo's, this was Zeus's first show that he was in Limit Dog, and wow could you tell, he looked like a baby in the ring, plus it didn't help he had no coat.  But we were very pleased that he was placed in reserve, many thanks to the Judge Madelaine Lusby.

Big congratulations go to Lionslord Kennel, who had three of their bitches in the challenge, with their lovely Delta gaining her 5th CC.  Well Done guys!

This weekend we are of to the Welsh, We will be taking Zeus and also taking Kykko, who has not been in the showring for nearly a year, so we will see how she does.

July 2008 - Swedish Club Show & World Show, Stockholme, Sweden

008

This was our first time to show in Europe and really didn't know what to expect, well I will try and explain our trip as best as I can.  Alcohol does terrible things to the memory!! Hahaha!

We were very lucky that Nigel & Anita Holliday from Lionslord Kennel invited us to go with them to the World Show in Sweden.  What started out as just the four of us going, turned out to be quite a party, including Maggie Bryant, Sylvia Horton, Kerry Rushby, Fred Inwood and Balasz Thurso.

So Nigel and Paul drove to Sweden with four dogs in tow,the rest of us had the easy option of flying and meeting them there.

We arrived in Stockholme on Monday and knew we had a day of rest and get the dogs settled in.  Tuesday was a different story, trying to bath and blast four dogs in the hotel room, no easy feat!! Thanks to Balasz for offering the use of his room!!  I think the maid quit that day! Hahaha!

Wednesday we drove North of Stockholme to enter the Swedish Club show, we were concerned with Zeus as he seemed to have hurt his paw on the cage.  But he came through well even in the heat by gaining an Excellent and 2nd Intermediate Dog.  More than we had ever hoped for, Zac - Baltizar Iz Poselka Sokol for Lionslord gaining Excellent and 5th Open Dog, and Pluto - Kumatata Awesome Boy for Lionslord gaining Excellent and 4th Open Dog.  Myself and Paul were confused with the judging, but Nigel and Anita were on hand to explain how it all works.  We sort of got it, eventually!!!  Thanks to the Judge Ragnor Leif Hjorth from Norway.

The next day was the World Show, so early nights were planned (the less said about that the better)!!

We arrived early at the show, to get the dogs settled and good views around the ringside.  Zeus went into the ring and his movement looked good, and as usual took it all in his stride.  I don't think me and Paul have ever been so nervous and it got to the stage were we could hardly breath and I could literally hear Paul's heart pumping, or maybe that was just mine haha!  To our utter amazement Zeus gained an Excellent and went on to get 1st in Intermediate Dog.  We were absolutely thrilled and once again our heart rates resumed to about normal!

Other placings were:

Mikka - A Beautiful Stranger for New Wind - Excellent - 3rd Open Female

Zac - Baltizar Iz Poselka Sokol for Lionslord - Excellent - 3rd Open Dog

Pluto - Kumatata Awesome Boy for Lionslord - Very Good

Zeus then had to go back in for the Challenge (heart rates peaking once again)!  To our utter disbelief Zeus got awarded the CAC, I think I nearly lost my voice I was screaming that much!

Thanks go to the Judge Guido Perisino for thinking so highly of him and special thanks goes to Anita Holiday who showed Zeus on both days, for her expertise and calmness in handling him she was an absolute 'STAR'.  Also special thanks to Balasz for getting the dogs looking immaculate on the day, he done a fantastic job in such a small room!

We had a fantastic time and definitely not a trip we will forget in a hurry, the atmosphere on both days was fantastic, and great support from all that attended.  The only problem now is that we may have the European 'bug' and can't wait for our next trip!!!

Other News

This weekend sees Zeus's first trip abroad, Nigel & Anita Holliday kindly invited us to join them in Sweden for the Leonberger Club Show and the World Show in Stockholm.  As you can imagine we are really excited to be going, and we will bring you all our news when we get back!

June 2008 - Blown Away at Blackpool

What a day, the day started off badly, we had a problem shutting the boot on the car (its just had a new lock as well)! So after about 20 attempts it decided to lock!  So we set off, we had just got 10 miles from home and I realised I had forgot my entry tickets! Oooppsss!  So I sheepishly told Paul to stop the car, turn around, I just got the look! LOL

So we set off again half an hour late, me thinking judging didn't start until 9:30, ooops wrong again!  So as soon as we got there Paul was more or less straight in! Again, I got another look!!!!!

Zeus moved well on the day and took it in his stride, the Judge Mr Ellis Hulme gave Zeus a First in Post Grad, he went back in for the challenge and to our utter amazement gave him the Dog CC, we are so pleased this is our first CC EVER!!!  The elation didn't stop there Zeus then gained BOB, our thanks go to the judge for thinking so highly of him at only 19 months.

We were told by a steward that the winds were estimated at 75 miles an hour and if you hadn't got BOB then they advised to get on the road, we thought maybe we should go also as we had quite a journey home.  Just as we walked out, one of the marquee's split in half and people were running!!!!  Debris was flying everywhere, it was really scary, as we left Ambulances were arriving, fire engines and police! Everyone was told to evacuate immediately.  So that was our decision made for us.

What a day, surely one we will never forget in a hurry!!

Hope everyone got home safe and sound and nobody was hurt in the chaos!

June 2008 - Southern Counties

Another long journey down to Southern Counties, very damp but a mild day.

Zeus was entered into Post Graduate Dog and when I got the catalogue I realised what a big class it was, 23 entries!

The class was split so the Judge Mr John feehan had more room to move the dogs, and move them he didd!  Will have to take note if Paul goes under him again to book him in for fitness classes!!  There was a few red faces in there, easy for me to say sitting on the sidelines (and not chuckling at Paul, huffing and puffing)!

Zeus seemed a bit giddy on the day, and he didn't move his best, but he still got placed third which we were pleased with as this was such a big class.

Stars of the day had to be the fantastic stewards, Bill & Geraldine Crawley, Bill for his proffessionalism in getting everyone organised and in order, and Geraldine for the endless amounts of sweets she supplied for the exhibitors as well as spectators.  This made for a great atmosphere.

Special congratulations go to Nigel & Anita Holliday for gaining there 3rd CC with Pluto and Delta for getting the BCC, a very poignant day as last year this was their late Sox's day, a great tribute to him.

Well done to all other winners on the day and all that were placed.

May 2008 - Bath

This was our first ever visit to Bath and we were really looking forward to it, expecting nice weather beautiful scenery.  Well the scenery was beautiful, but it certainly lived up to it's name!!!  It poured down nearly all day, but we were lucky that the car park wasn't that far away from the tent, so towels loaded we got Zeus inside and done our best to towel dry him.

Well this was Zeus's first show in Post Graduate Dog, he is now up against the big boys!!  So were pleased that he got a second place out of 7 entries, thanks to the judge Mr D Cavill.

Congratulations go to all the other winners on the day and all others that were placed.  There was a good atmosphere ringside despite the gloomy weather.

MAY 2008 - Birmingham National

On my own at the show again and Zeus's last show in Junior, again no pressure.  Beautiful sunny day at the show at Stafford and credit to the committee it was very well organised with plastic matting around the benching area in case of bad weather (no muddy feet).

I met a couple on the way in from Cannock! (can't remember their names, must be my age) who have been looking at Leo's now for four years, they stayed around the show ring all day and thoroughly enjoyed it!  Great when people are coming into the breed enjoy it and show their enthusiasm, ask questions about the breed - it brings back memories of when I first went into the breed. Brilliant!

Zeus was his normal chilled out self and I was pretty relaxed too.  The 'Leo Girls' looked after me well on the day, Geraldine thanks for the brew, and Lins went one better with her mobile mini-bar.  Thanks, HICK!!

Good entries on the day, really hot aswell, which made Zeus all the more lethargic, so I geed him up and in we went.  Zeus was pulled out First in Junior, which I was thrilled with not just because it was his last time in Junior, but it saved me from being interogated by Kirsty, a blow by blow account of what I had done wrong (oh no, not Zeus HaHa)!!!

I also showed Sylvia & Bert Hortons puppy Derby - Sylbert Cathedral Mountain, who got a Reserve, good result for a young girl but even better for her litter sister Sylbert Victoria At Kensalroag who gained a first, nice young promising bitch and shown well by owner Judith Dawe.

Next in was Bo - Sylbert Bow River, who also gained a Reserve, but before being finally placed the judge put me second, I thought great, but then the judge came over and said he had got me mixed up with Ray Bolt and swapped us over.  So I went home with Carol and plan to live happily ever after!!!! HaHa! (Carol we must be more careful, teehee)

Congratulations to all the winners on the day, especially to Nigel & Anita Holliday with their 'awesome' boy Pluto - Kumamatata Awesome Boy for Lionslord, who acheived Best in Breed and made the cut for the Working Group final but just wasn't placed, one day guys a LEO will get it.

Thanks to the Judge Mr Geoff Duffield who thought so highly of Zeus, it was great to catch up with everyone, oh and thanks Lins for the photo's - you can really see my sunburn LOL.

See you all at Bath in a few weeks, and Ray wear a different coloured shirt next time mate!!!!

APRIL 2008 - WELKS

We only decided to take Zeus to WELKS this year as our girls are very much out of coat in April.   We were fairly lucky with the weather but the muddy ground was something else to contend with!

Zeus was entered into Junior Dog, quite a small class of only 4 Juniors, we were thrilled that he got a First place.

Paul was busy throughout the rest of the day showing the Sylbert Leonbergers who also got placings.

Zeus and Paul returned to the ring for Best Dog and to our utter amazement Zeus was presented with his first RDCC, which is a great achievement as a Junior Dog and earns his Stud Book No.   To say we were thrilled was an understatement!!!   A big thanks to the Judge Joan Rushby who thought so highly of him.

So we returned home with big smiles and lots of mud everywhere!!

Congratulations also go to all the other winners on the day, it was a good atmosphere and great to have a catch up with everyone.

See Zeus Gallery for photo's

March 2008 - Crufts

20080308-_MG_0569

Just returned from a great day at Crufts, held at the NEC Birmingham, luckily the weather stayed fine and dry, always a bit of a worry.

We arrived in plenty of time, three of our dogs had qualified but we decided to only take two of them.

First in the ring was Zeus in Junior Dog, we were very pleased that the judge, Jennie Davie placed him third in his class.   Thanks to Donna for sending us this lovely photograph.

Nanook unfortunately didn't get placed in her Limit class.

It was good to catch up with everyone and we really enjoyed our day, special thanks to Lins, who provided a much needed mini-bar ringside. (Great for the nerves)!

Congratulations go to all the winners on the day, all very well deserved.

We returned on Sunday for a little retail therapy and came away with many treats for the dogs, which I am sure they will enjoy.

Other news that is happening this week is Zeus is going for his Hip and Elbow score, so that will be a nervous few weeks waiting for the results!   I will post on the website as soon as we receive them.   So we are keeping everything crossed!

February 2008 - NWPB Open Show

A very cold but sunny day at The Sports Connexion, Ryton on Dunsmore, we had to wait for the Great Danes to be judged first then we were in.

We were very pleased with Zeus performance, he came first in Junior Dog then went on to win BOB.   Thanks go to the Judge Caroline King Cherne who thought so highly of him.

We stayed for the group but didn't get any further, thanks go to everyone who stayed until the end to support us I know we were all really frozen by then.

Congratulation go also to all the other winners on the day.

January 2008 - Manchester Championship Show by Paul

Well this was was my first show on my own without my better half (no pressure!).

Arrived at the showground in plenty of time on a cold, wet and wintery day (no good for the Leo coats or my hairstyle!)

I only took Zeus, one's enough I was never good at multi-tasking! lol, 10 entries with 9 in attendance, Zeus went well on the day and got a First place, thanks to Judge Sue Thomas.   This is his qualification for Crufts 2009!

Great atmosphere on the day, great to meet up with friends and catch up (we won't talk about the vibrating massage chair, you know who you are!!).

Anyway, back to the show, some great results on the day, Bev and Pate's Lanta gaining his BOB and his first CC, congratulations to the both, very well deserved, and by the sound of the cheer that went up everyone agreed with the result.   It's the first time I have seen Pete lost for words!

Congratulations to Anita and Nigel with Mika who gained a first in Limit Bitch, fantastic result.

Thanks to Carol and Steve for videoing and to Kerry for answering Kirsty plea for someone to video Zeus in her absence.

I stayed to watch the Working Group final, Lanta didn't progress any further, but there is time yet!

So I had the all clear to return home with Zeus gaining his first! Phew!

Congratulations also go to all the other winners on the day

We will put some photo's on as soon as our computer is back on-line.

December 2007 - LKA

A very enjoyable day out at the NEC for the 2007 LKA.   It's nice to meet up with everyone and catch up as well as giving out crimbo cards and saving on post.   Although I ended up chatting too much and came home with half of them in my bag!!   Great to meet up with some new friends, you know who you are if your reading this and I think we will be firm friends over the years and great drinking buddies, great for that occasional celebration!

We only took Zeus with us, he was looking great and behaved very well on the day as he slept most of it!   He came a very respectful second in Junior Dog beaten by Bev's loveley boy Kwenobe Balfen Hullanta.   We just can't get passed him!!

Subject to confirmation Zeus is Top Leonberger Puppy 2007, so fingers crossed!

Thanks to everyone who had lovely things to say about Zeus, we are very proud of his acheivements this year and are really looking forward to the shows in 2008.

Congratulations go to all the winners on the day, all very well deserved.

November 2007 - West Bromwich & Wednesbury Canine Society

We attended the above open show last weekend to support our local show, we arrived in pouring down rain and icy cold winds, okay for the Leo's but not so great for us.   We entered Zeus into his first Junior class and he came a respectable second, beaten by Kwenobe Balfen Hullanta.   Next in was Kykko who also got a second beaten by Kinghern Troubleshooter,   so a good day all in all.

Congratulations must go to Bev & Pete as they went on to win the Working Group with Kwenobe Balfen Hullanta.   He is a lovely boy and very well deserved.

October 2007 - LCGB 6th Championship Show

ZeusLCGB

Well our weekend started off by a mammoth wash and blow dry session, it's been a while since we have taken more than two dogs to a show, this time we   took three so our sympathy goes out to you guys who take anymore than that! Well it was definitely worth it even though we both had extremely bad backs (we need to invest in a grooming table!)

We arrived at the show in plenty of time and got the troupe settled in, first in was Zeus   - Sylbert Emperor Ridge At Sancholees in   Puppy Dog, we were absolutely over the moon that he came first in his class, next in was Kykko - Sancholees Aphrodites Rock   in Graduate Bitch she also gained her rossette with a VHC, she was a little unsettled on the day, maybe because it's been a while since we have had her showing.   Nanook - Capauden Three Lions At Sancholees was next in and gained an incredible second place out of 16 entries, we were absolutely thrilled.

Zeus returned to the ring and gained his Best Puppy Dog and then went on to win Best Puppy in Show!   To say we are ecstatic was an understatement, many thanks go to the judges on the day Mrs C E Cartledge and Mrs J Hammond that thought so highly of him.

Also thanks for the very nice comments around the ring about him, it made for a   great atmosphere and made the day very special for us.   Congratulations also go to the other   winners on the day all very well deserved.

A few personal thanks go to Sylvia and Bert Horton for letting us have such a wonderful boy and thanks also to Anita and Nigel for their knowledge and guidance over the last few months.

September 2007 - City Of Birmingham

2007_0901PuppyBest0152

GREAT NEWS!! - Zeus - Sylbert Emperor Ridge at Sancholees, gained a first in Puppy Dog and went on to   win Best Puppy in Breed, completely Ecstatic We went on to the Puppy Group stages but after a very warm and long day I think Zeus had, had enough and bowed out gracefully!

Nanook - Capauden Three Lions at Sancholees also getting a Third Post Graduate Bitch and her qualification to Crufts 2008.

Many thanks go to Anita and Nigel Holliday (Lionslord Kennel) for showing Zeus for us as Paul had to work, they did a great job and kept me in order!

Also many thanks to Judith Meakin for showing Nanook and getting her qualification.

Other news Zeus brother (Sylbert Toboggan Creek at Gunnersbrook)   also got a second Puppy dog and his qualification to Crufts 2008.

August 2007

A very wet day at Builth Wells,Wales!   But after taking an eternity to get there we had a great result with Zeus - Sylbert Emperor Ridge at Sancholees,   getting a second   in Puppy Dog, so not a washout after all.

July 2007

2007_0714July2007NWPB0049

Zeus has qualified for Cruft 2008!!

Just returned from a great day out at Malvern County Showground for the NWPB Championship Show.   Great result for us, Zeus - Sylbert Emperor Ridge At Sancholees came second in Puppy Dog.   We are ecstatic with the result as this is only his second show and his qualification for Crufts 2008 and thanks go to all the people who said very nice comments about him, we are looking forward to the rest of the year.   Other good news for his two sisters, Bow - Sylbert Bow River came second in Puppy Bitch and also gained her qualification for Crufts and Saffi - Sylbert Forever Faberge for Lionslord had a great result coming first in Puppy Bitch.

June 2007

Had a great day out at Southern Counties, this was Zeus's first show, we were a bit worried how he would perform, what with the heat, stage fright and seeing his brother and sisters again, but as I thought he took it all in his stride and performed well on the day, considering how hot it was.   His class was rather large because there was no minor puppy group (19 in his class!!)   He got pulled out to the last eight which we were really pleased with as there were some big boys in there!   His sisters faired better with the lovely Saffi (Sylbert Forever Faberge At Lionslord) getting an impressive 2nd and her qualification for Crufts 2008, and the beautiful Tia (Sylbert Lady Tia At Illeleoni) getting a VHC.   Thanks to Sylv & Bert who provided a much needed shelter (tent)   for the babies to keep them cool!   Congratulations to everyone who qualified on the day.   It was a great day out!

March 2007

Just returned from a great day out at Crufts Sancholees Aphrodites Rock came third in post graduate bitch, unfortunately Capauden Three Lions came away with nothing, but we still had a good time and better luck next time.   As they say you always take the best   dogs home.

We returned to Cruft on Sunday to do some retail therapy, as on show day you have no chance!   The dogs got a lot of nice treats on the day, new leads   and food etc, etc!!   We have also changed Nanooks name to Capauden Three Lions At Sancholeees.   This was was done there and then on the day, great service from the Kennel Club.   Our feet were very tired, but yet another great day out and a fantastic chance to soak up the atmosphere, as you can't do that on show day!!

January 2007

We have just collected our beautiful little boy   on New Year's day from Sylvia and Bert Horton.   We had   three   handsome boys to choose from, but after an agonising debate we chose our scrumtious:

Zeus - Sylberts Emperor Ridge at Sancholees.

Just a note to say thanks to Sylv and Bert for giving us such a gorgeous little boy.

Looking forward to introducing him to the Leo world in 2007!
